The album Litany was released in 1996 under the prestigious ECM label, this recording features Arvo Pärt’s compositions Litany, Psalom, and Trisagion. The starting point for Litany was a commission from the Oregon Bach Festival in Eugene, USA, which led Pärt to choose a suitable English text as the basis for the work. The instrumental miniature Psalom was originally composed in 1985 for the composer’s 50th birthday as a two-voice piece without a fixed instrumentation. Trisagion is inspired by the opening prayer of the Orthodox Divine Liturgy and means “Thrice-Holy Hymn.”
