Tõnu Kõrvits’s “Sei la luce e il mattino” (You Are the Light and the Morning) is an eight-part cycle for choir and strings. The texts, poems by the Italian poet Cesare Pavese (1908–1950), were selectedn and translated by Doris Kareva. The album was released by the Ondine label in October 2020. Cesare Pavese’s poetry, marked by a tragic fate, is difficult to describe in just a few words. There is love for nature and the land. There is a deep sense of longing, mourning, sorrow, beauty, and nostalgia. Yet despite all this, the texts are full of life and flow, with a certain mystical bubbling and pulsing energy.
