Tõnu Kaljuste and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra will present the world premiere of Alisson Kruusmaa's new composition "And If I Had A Dream" in Stockholm on August 29, 2024.

Alisson Kruusmaa:

"This piece is thematically connected to the recently completed ballet "Light from the End of the World", which will also premiere in the upcoming autumn season. Both works reflect on the destruction of the old world and the possibility of a new world emerging. I sense that many musical impulses originated from the ballet and continue in this new composition for the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra.
I composed this new work specifically with the sound and ensemble of the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra in mind. The solo cello, in particular, has a prominent role in the piece.
Since this composition was commissioned specifically by the festival, the initial inspiration for the music came from the given title of the work and the overall idea about the current state of the world, the search for new directions and solutions, and the hope and dream for a better world. I hope the music conveys these thoughts while still leaving space and freedom for the listener's own reflections.
One of my recent favorites is the British artist Michael Kiwanuka. His music has accompanied me continuously during this creative period and has probably influenced several pieces to varying degrees."

Baltic Sea Festival is one of Europe's largest and most important classical music festivals. This year's theme focuses on dreams and ideas. The concert on August 29 in Stockholm, titled "Tallinn Chamber Orchestra interprets Pärt and Saariaho", will primarily feature works by Estonian composers.
