This album is dedicated to the works of Heino Eller, a pivotal figure in Estonian music and a mentor to numerous composers, including Arvo Pärt. Eller's compositions are known for their lyrical depth and clever incorporation of Estonian folk elements within a tastefully modernist framework. The title pieve, Neenia, is a poignant memorial piece written in 1928, characterized by its melancholic melodiousness and rich string textures. The Lyric Suite, originally composed for piano, is presented here in its well crafted orchestral arrangement. The Five Pieces for String Orchestra draw inspiration from Estonian folk tunes, showcasing Eller's ability to blend traditional motifs with classical forms. The Sinfonietta, Eller's last major work, exemplifies his mature style, marked by structural clarity and expressive depth.
